SCGS Genealogy Bytes

Special Interest Group

Following the end of a successful Discussion Group series, several people indicated they would be interested in continuing the discussion of computer-based research.  Since 2008, Geneaology Bytes has met on a monthly basis at the Milton Public Library.  These meetings are informal discussions and group participation is encouraged. Most of the meetings have centered around a specific topic with members discussing their experiences and sharing information.  Topics have included: how and where to find genealogical information; how to organize and store that information; message boards, chat rooms, blogs, etc.; various software programs; GenSmarts; Footnote; Library resources; Genealogy and technology; Cemetery Research; NARA on-line resources, etc.  Each meeting leads to more questions and more places to look!

Revisiting Family Tree Magazine's 101 Top Web Sites

We simply ran out of time last month and would like to revisit some of the web sites mentioned in Family Tree Magazine.  (If you go to Family Tree Magazine on line and join their VIP program, you can see their listings on line.)  Do you have any favorite sites you would like to recommend?

*Milton public library is at 121 Union Street, across from the renovated theater.
Parking is available behind the library and across the street.  The meeting room is upstairs; an elevator is available.  Everyone is welcome to come join in these discussions.

If you care to join us for lunch, some people may be at the Miltonian Pizzaria, located at 510 Mulberry Street, in the same shopping center as Ace Hardware.  It's on the corner of Mulberry Street & Rte. 16, the first intersection west of the traffic light at Rte. 5 & 16.  (If you come into Milton on Rte. 5, turn onto Mulberry at the church; from there it's less than a mile.  If you come into Milton on Rte. 16, just watch for the Ace Hardware sign.)  The Pizzaria has a wide range of food options and reasonable prices.  Hope to see you there.
